Η Dev Team έδωσε σε κυκλοφορία τα QuickPwn v2.2.5 for Mac (download link) - QuickPwn v2.2.5.2 for Windows (download link) - PwnageTool v2.2.5 for Mac (download link) τα οποία αναμέναμε για να μπορέσουμε να κάνουμε Jailbreak την firmware v2.2.1:

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone running 2.2 firmware and you want to keep your ability to use yellowns0w (or the option to use it in the future) do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
2. Yellowsn0w will NOT work with the baseband version (02.30.03) that is present in the recent 2.2.1 update - you will need to create a custom ipsw that will allow you to update safely without affecting the baseband.
3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest versions of PwnageTool and QuickPwn.
6. These apps are suitable for the recent 2.2.1 release.
7. The Yellowsn0w version has been updated to 0.9.7. Yellowsn0w is available from Cydia or Installer - this version allows compatibility with pwned 2.2.1 system (not baseband) - again - remember 0.9.7 yellowsn0w DOES NOT WORK WITH 2.2.1 (02.30.03) directly - you need to be running a ‘pwned’ version of 2.2.1 which doesn’t upgrade the baseband.
8. Users of OS X 10.5.6 will be unable to use DFU mode correctly, please see the note towards the end of this post to easily fix this issue.

Baseband 101

The ‘baseband’ is the generic name given to the internal components of the iPhone that handle the phone calls and Internet access. This ‘baseband’ is a tiny and unique independent computer system that runs inside your iPhone, it is separate to the main system that handles the applications (such as email and google maps) and it talks to the main part of the phone over an internal communications network. Think of it like a cable modem or other peripheral that is attached to your home PC that needs occasional updates. When a software update is released and presented to you within iTunes the baseband is sometimes updated (to fix bugs or add new features). The 2.2.1 update for the iPhone 3G contains such an update, so running the vanilla updater straight away with iTunes will reprogram and update the baseband. This could be bad for certain people, depending on your ultimate aim.

SIM Free/SP Unlocked/Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G

This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G for $$$$$$$. This model of iPhone 3G doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. Your phone is already unlocked so you do not need to worry about baseband updates, simply upgrade to 2.2.1 using iTunes and then use QuickPwn to Pwn and Jailbreak. This will add Cydia and Installer too.

Locked iPhone 3G - Preserve Baseband

This applies if you have a locked iPhone 3G and you wish to update to 2.2.1 but preserve the iPhone’s current baseband software. Preserving the baseband will ensure that you can still use “yellowsn0w” the iPhone 3G unlock application. To upgrade your phone to 2.2.1 and preserve the state of the baseband you need to create a custom .ipsw with PwnageTool. This custom .ipsw will not contain the baseband update but of course will still allow all the cool new stuff from 2.2.1

Please note: PwnageTool is only available for Mac OS X.

Locked iPhone 3G

If you are using your iPhone with one carrier and have no interest in the possibility of an iPhone 3G unlock in the near future then just restore or upgrade to 2.2.1 using iTunes and use QuickPwn to Jailbreak and add Cydia and Installer.

iPhone 2G (1st Generation)

Update or Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then run QuickPwn to do the magic, ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything.

iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)

Update to 2.2.1 with iTunes and run QuickPwn.

iPod Touch 2G (New iPod Touch)

Sorry, no support at this time, but Redsn0w is being developed.

Fixing DFU mode on 10.5.6

As noted previously OS X 10.5.6 introduced a bug that affected the use of DFU mode. There have been previously published hacks and techniques to fix this, but there is another method that can be used to easily restore functionality.

1. You will need an account with ADC (Apple Developer Connection) this is free and takes a few minutes to sign up, you should read the terms and conditions carefully and you should only sign up if you are thinking of developing applications in the future - http://developer.apple.com/mac/
2. Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily Log release for Mac OS X 10.5.5 Build 9F33” (yes, that is a “5” in 10.5.5 - this is a developer debug package of the USB kernel extension).
3. Install IOUSBFamily-315.4.1.pkg from within the disk image
4. Reboot your system!

Apple has not launched a new firmware for quite sometime (not even a small update) since the release of 2.2 version So, we all are excited about the

new features coming in the next release but, the leaked feature list doesn't seem to be doing much justice with our aspirations!

Though none of these new features have been confirmed in anyway, they seem to be enough for a small update. First, this new update will include a number of bug fixes which an end-user would rarely even notice. These fixes include fixing the super slow sync speeds which many users (including me) face daily on a PC. The new features are not really big, but include certain interface changes in the SMS application interface and some new features for the Mail application targeting the Corporate users. Another feature which is said to be under beta is deleting all mails at once rather than selecting each in the Mail application. This new version is speculated to release in the upcoming few weeks.

Also, there is another rumor that the next major 2.3 update, which has no confirmed release date will include some sort of option for Bluetooth synchronization with iTunes - but I think this is highly unlikely due to Apple's non-seriousness about other bluetooth issues on iPhone.

H RiP Dev ανακοίνωσε το JuiceDrop, μια δωρεάν εφαρμογή για Mac OS X και Microsoft Windows που επιτρέπει την εύκολη μεταφορά (drag&drop) αρχείων στο iPhone.

Δεν απαιτείται η χρήση WiFi καθώς η μεταφορά γίνεται μέσω USB, όπως το iTunes. Μπορείτε να το παραμετροποιήσετε ώστε να μεταφέρετε συγκεκριμένα αρχεία σε συγκεκριμένους φακέλους, σαν presets! Δεν απαιτείται jailbreak!

Γρήγορο και απλό
Μεταφέρετε αρχεία στο iPhone γρήγορα και εύκολα μέσω USB. Σύρτε τα αρχεία στο παράθυρο του JuiceDrop (για Windows πατήστε Alt+Z πρώτα). Aυτό ήταν!

Παραμετροποίηση
Μπορείτε εύκολα να παραμετροποιήσετε το JuiceDrop για να μεταφέρετε διαφορετικού τύπου αρχεία σε διαφορετικούς φακέλους στο iPhone. Υπάρχουν ήδη κάποια έτοιμα presets για αρχή.

Πχ βάλτε τις φωτογραφίες στον φάκελο Wallpapers, τα λεξικά στο Dictionaries και τα βιβλία στο BookLibrary - όπως θέλετε.

Το JuiceDrop είναι απολύτως δωρεάν. Λειτουργεί σε mac και pc και δεν απαιτεί jailbreak. Χρησιμοποιεί τα ίδια πρωτόκολλα με το iTunes.

Tα τελευταία 24ωρα η Apple έχει αρχίσει να εγκρίνει εφαρμογές web browsingγια το iPhone από τρίτους κατασκευαστές. Φαίνεται ότι αυτές οι εφαρμογές είχαν μπει στην ‘αναμονή’ καθώς κάποιες από τις εφαρμογές αυτές είχαν κατατεθεί από τον Οκτώβρη.

Η Apple αποφάσισε να επιτρέψει τέτοιες εφαρμογές ανοίγοντας έτσι το δρόμο στα Opera και Firefox για τις δικές τους mobile εκδοχές για το iPhone αν και πρέπει να ξεπεραστούν και άλλοι περιορισμοί του SDK.

Kάποιες από τις εφαρμογές είναι οι εξής:

- Edge Browser (Free) - No loss of screen real estate to the address or navigation bars.
- Incognito ($1.99) - Now you can browse without leaving a history of any kind.
- WebMate:Tabbed Browser ($0.99) - Web Mate simplifies browsing by queuing up all the links you click on, then allowing you to view them one by one when you’re ready.
- Shaking Web ($1.99) - adds a sophisticated algorithm to compensate for small hand shaking to allow for easier reading.

Είναι σίγουρο πως θα έχουμε πολλά να πούμε τις επόμενες ώρες για τη συγκεκριμένη είδηση, για την ώρα σας επισυνάπτω την ανακοίνωση του Jobs στους υπαλλήλους της Apple.

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my
health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Some cool new stuff was announced today, and as I'm writing this, the keynote is barely over.

So Phil started off with a new version of iLife, iLife 09, including new versions of all the parts, iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, etc. Upgrade is $79 and $99 for a Family Pack, up to 5 Macs. Next was iWork 09, Phil demoed new versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Something that stood out was the ability to view full screen in Pages. Also announced, was a Keynote remote, available as $.99 application, available soon in the App Store.

Next up was the new 17 inch MacBook Pro. As rumored, it has a non-removable battery, up to an 8 hour charge. Same style as the new MacBook and Pro's, except you can buy a non-glossy screen attachment for $50.

Finally, was iTunes. Currently, 8 out of 10 million songs on iTunes are now DRM free, the rest are due to be DRM free by the end of the quarter. Also, new prices for music are: $.69, $.99, and $1.29, which are available in April. Now with an iPhone 3G, you can now download music from the store, over 3G.

Καλή Χρονιά σε όλους!

To 2009 μπήκε με το δεξί για τους κατόχους του iPhone 3G καθώς η devTeam κυκλοφόρησε το Yellowsn0w (διαθέσιμο από το Cydia/Installer) και πραγματοποίησε την υπόσχεση της για Unlock του iPhone 3G!

Για να ξεκλειδώσετε το iPhone 3G θα χρειαστεί αρχικά να το κάνετε Update μέσω του iTunes στην v2.2 (ώστε να αναβαθμιστεί η baseband στην 02.28.00).
Όσοι είστε ήδη στην v2.2 αλλά έχετε διαφορετικό baseband* θα χρειαστεί να κάνετε Restore μέσω του iTunes στην v2.2.

*(Για να ελέγξετε σε ποιό baseband είναι το iPhone σας πηγαίνετε στο Settings->General->About->Modem Firmware. Το Modem Firmware είναι το ίδιο με την baseband)

Στη συνέχεια θα πρέπει να το κάνετε Jailbreak με το QuickPwn ώστε να εγκαταστήσετε το Cydia/Installer:

Προσθέστε τα ακόλουθα sources:

- Περιμένετε ακόμη 10-15 sec.

Μερικές χρήσιμες πληροφορίες από την DevTeam:

BASICS

* The unlock about to be released works exclusively with baseband 02.28.00. This baseband is provided by the latest firmware update (2.2) from Apple. You’ll need to upgrade to this release using iTunes and then use QuickPwn to activate etc. Because it works on 02.28.00, it is available to everyone on the planet. This means we don’t need to unnecessarily expose holes in earlier basebands, which is an important concern.
* The application is a small daemon that is launched on boot. It injects the payload at boot and also whenever there is a baseband reset. You won’t notice anything about it other than that your third-party sim now works. It’s a small program and unobtrusive. There is no GUI (this is by design).
* yellowsn0w is completely removable through Cydia, the command line, and iTunes.

KNOWN ISSUES

* There is a known issue with SIM cards that have STK (SIM Toolkit) application menus. These menus are usually items such as “top up” “get credit” etc. These menu items confuse the application sometimes. Removing and reinserting the SIM once after reboot (give it about 10 secs after you see the slide to unlock widget) fixes this issue. We’re working on a better fix.
* For those of you using SIM cards without STK menus, the application has some optional arguments that will make the unlock much faster for you. So either experiment on your own (use “yellowsn0w -h” for usage) or wait for a customization writeup.
* After you install yellowsn0w via Cydia, you should return to the Cydia main menu then reboot your iPhone with the 3rd party SIM installed. Wait for the slide to unlock screen, then wait 10 or 15 secs more. If you don’t see your carrier name pop up, then remove your SIM, reinsert it, and wait 10 secs more. This is the step we’ll be working on eliminating next.

Σημείωση: Η είδηση δεν αναφέρεται/ενδιαφέρει όσους προμηθεύτηκαν το iPhone 3G από την Vodafone GR (καθώς είναι ήδη unlocked) παρόλα αυτά αποτελεί ευχάριστο νέο για όσους έχουν προμηθευτεί το iPhone 3G από άλλες χώρες όπου και πωλείται SIM locked.

UPDATES

1. Soon you’ll see yellowsn0w 0.9.1 in the repos. It uses a much longer delay to let your SIM card initialize. If you have problems with 0.9.0, try this one and wait a full minute after you seem homescreen, then reinsert sim card. We need both success and failure reports to tune this across the world, so please be patient (but please also report result!)
2. If you are in the U.S. and are trying this with T-Mobile, you must turn off the 3G switch in Settings. Also if you are good with the command line, you can make it much easier by adding the line -q right after the /usr/bin/yellowsn0w line in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.iphone-dev.yellowsn0w.plist (that’s and advanced tip, hopefully someone will make a boosprefs type of tool for it)
3. No PIN support yet. Remember how we said this was beta? Well we’re still working out the flow for SIMs with PINs enabled. Please disable any PIN you may have on that SIM before trying yellowsn0w, for now..
4. The unlock will silently quit on anything other than baseband 02.28.00. It detects the wrong version and just quits to avoid any damage. Please double check your Modem Firmware setting in Settings->General->About.
